It’s a good idea to begin planning for your baby nursery bedding even before your baby is born. To start with, don’t be fooled by the argument that you cant plan for baby’s crib bedding without knowing if its going to be a girl or a boy. Its true parents want different designs, patterns and colours for girl and boy babies. Please don’t worry about this because there are many bedding choices and even nursery color options available in the market which are fine for both girls and boys.

It is easy for parents ” especially those choosing baby nursery bedding for the first time ” to worry about things that are of lesser importance than vital ones. Bear in mind that while we adults spend an average of eight hours per day, i.e. twenty-four hours, in bed, baby spends almost all of the twenty-four hours in bed!

The first thing to consider is Safety. We often forget the simple fact that baby can’t say if it feels uncomfortable. We parents must think ahead and make sure the baby bedding is safe from all aspects. For instance, it is untrue that very soft beds are most comfortable for baby. The bedding should be fairly firm. Also, desist from piling the crib with cuddly toys and pillows. Adults may find them lovely and colourful but not baby. These can be dangerous because baby could accidentally suffocate. Keep the cot empty of all pillows and soft toys!

Tucking baby into a heavy blanket to keep cold draughts out is equally foolish. Babys movement can bring such blankets over its face and cause baby to over heat.

Next, plan to keep your babys nursery stocked with baby bedding essentials. Its hard to guess; But blankets and crib sheets sometimes have to be changed several times a day. Pure cotton sheets are best and I’ve already mentioned about using light blankets. My advice: check the thread count of the crib sheets you buy.

Our advice is that you should avoid plastic altogether including for baby comforters. Non-biodegradable material is a strict no-no for babys crib. These could trigger allergies. The best thing is to use cotton as crib bedding.

Last but by no means the least, you must ensure the durability of babys cot bedding. As you know, babys going to spend a lot of time in the cot. Apart from babys cot, plan the nursery well. This can contribute to baby growing up to be a happy child.

Lets return once more to babys crib. To recap, lets picture baby lying comfortably on a soft but firm mattress covered with cotton crib sheet and tucked into a lightweight yet warm blanket of pretty design ” not a plain pastel uni-color please! Babies don’t need a pillow and shouldn’t have one until they are over 12 months old. Similarly, don’t fill baby’s cot with cuddly toys of various shapes, sizes, and colors.

All done, you can be reassured that darling baby is enjoying a safe slumber.

Choosing baby nursery bedding is fun and exciting. From the large choice of bedding to select from, finding the perfect one for your baby daughter is not hard to do. Whatever choice you may select, it is important that it gives her good care and protection.

Go for crib bedding that is good quality because you cannot afford to put your baby at risk. The baby’s crib is both her bed and her playhouse at the same time. Your baby stays there a lot of the time, so it is very important that she is comfortable.

Aside from that, nursery bedding must be made from soft and smooth cotton for added comfort. Having these ideas in mind, pick the bedding that goes best for your precious little baby. These are some great ideas to consider when choosing the right baby girl bedding.

Girly: Choose pastel colors to have a girly theme for your baby girl’s bedding. You can use those designed with flowers, butterflies, and Disney princesses. You can also have those with laces, ribbons, or bows to make the cot more beautiful and appealing. These will help to make your bedding look lighter and be more comfortable for your baby girl.

Retro Bedding: Brown? Huh? Yeah, in case you haven’t known, the 70s are back in fashion. Not just flares either. We are talking about colors! Lime green, pink and brown, that is. Perhaps you like tans and lavenders with a little yellow and lime green. Stripes? Finding that cute little modern (but 70s) look has never been easier!!

Cute Little Teddy Bears in Colorful Bows: One of the prettiest themes is teddy bears. There are lots of quilts with teddies and you could decorate the room in bows of different colors. Then buy a teddy bear lamp and stuffed toys to decorate the room. Teddies are known for being cuddly and soft toys for children. Bedding with teddies as prints will surely make your daughter’s bedding fun and playful to look at. Apart from that, they come in fabulous colors that will make your baby girl’s crib lively and attractive.

When it comes to choosing that perfect baby girl bedding, we think that you have what it takes! There are several ideas that you can go by, but always put comfort before style!

Cotton sheets and blankets are traditional baby bedding choices for parents. This is because using cot blankets and cot sheets gives a parent the ability to keep their baby at the perfect temperature through adding or removing layers when needed.Usually, you should begin with about three blankets and four sheets. This amount lets you to have enough spare baby bedding if you need to make a speedy change. It’s a good idea to double check that all the baby bedding you buy is easy to wash and dry – make sure that everything you get is machine-washable.This is because you will find yourself washing your baby’s bedding many times and having dry clean only bedding would not be very practical.

Ready made nursery curtains take all the hassle out of curtains. You don’t have to spend time making the nursery curtains yourself, you simply measure up you windows and then select the most appropriate size curtains to fit the space you have.Ready made nursery curtains are also a much cheaper alternative to bespoke nursery curtains, so you can choose the nursery curtains to match your budget. The only thing that you need to consider is getting the size and fit correct. Always make sure that the length of curtains you pick will reach below the window sill. Also make sure that you select nursery curtains which measure double the width of your windows to enable a nice and full gathered effect. photo credit: A.K.

Cot sheets are popular choices for parents who are getting their cot bedding together for the new arrival.Parents can even make their own cot sheets by cutting down sheets from a regular adult sized bed if they don’t want to buy those made specifically for a cot. For parents who wish to buy their own baby nursery bedding there are some great choices which are available in shops and also online via the internet.Don’t forget that you should use specially sized sheets if you use a pram, carrycot or moses basket. These are designed to be smaller than normal cot-sized bedding. Sheets are generally made of the following different materials: traditional cotton, brushed flannelette (which is warm to the touch), cotton jersey or stretch cotton terry.Stretchy fitted sheets are useful bedding additions because they are unlikely to become come untucked during the night and are easy to get on and off.

Cotton baby blankets are very popular as many parents prefer natural fibres to be used for baby bedding items. However, concerns have recently been expressed in the media regarding the use of chemicals in conventional cotton. This because cotton is a crop that is grown with the use of many chemicals and pesticides. Using these chemical and pesticides has caused illness and even death amongst cotton pickers and those that manufacture cotton. For this reason some parents are now choosing to buy only organic cotton blankets for their little ones. Not only is there no danger of chemicals or pesticides coming into contact with their baby’s skin, the fibres in organic cotton blankets are longer which gives this type of baby nursery bedding a more luxurious feel.

Pram blankets are baby blankets which are sized smaller for use in prams or strollers. They are an important and necessary addition to the baby nursery bedding shopping list because they add warmth and comfort to a pram while your baby is on the move. Some mothers like to tuck the pram blanket over and around the baby (so tucked in firmly at the sides) to keep draughts out. Others layer the pram blankets with sheets or even choose to swaddle the baby inside the blanket itself.Pram blankets can be made from natural fibres such as cotton or wool, or man-made materials such as acrylic wool or fleece.

My advice is to think it over - an organic cotton baby blanket is a truly versatile buy – for both those early months and when the baby is older.

in the early days a baby blanket is very handy for wrapping your baby up in (”swaddling”).

Out and about – a baby blanket is the ideal size for folding around your baby in a pram or buggy to keep them warm and free from cold and draughts. A normal household blanket will be much too bulky.

Size matters – Make sure that you choose a large baby blanket of at least one metre square. A larger than normal baby blanket means that you can use it at night, as a buggy or pram cover, or even during the day as a play mat. That way you get lots of use out of your baby blanket before you even remember the times you used it as an extra wrap or baby comforter.
Having been used for thousands of years and then largely forgotten, this technique of comforting a baby is now very much back in fashion.

In the early days a baby blanket is very handy for wrapping your baby
up in this manner which is known as ”swaddling”.

To swaddle a baby you simply wrap them firmly in a small blanket remembering to tuck in the sides.

Babies love being swaddled – it makes them feel
safe and secure – after all, they were used to being held tight for 9
months in their mummy’s tummies. Swaddling a baby can help to settle a baby who is fractious and grumpy.

Some fans love the retro feel it radiates and also the way it stands out from fussy patterns or cartoon character motifs. Either way with gingham baby bedding you are able to co-ordinate your nursery with ease.

The traditional colours for gingham baby bedding are pink or blue gingham but other striking gingham patterns include green or red, which have the added advantage of being gender neutral. Gingham is also a design which will grow with your child as it won’t look babyish when they get a little older, unlike some nursery bedding styles.
They are used most often inside prams and strollers during colder weather to keep baby snug and warm.

Fleece blankets are very fashionable and come in lots of colours and prints.

Fleece is also easy to wash and dries very quickly indeed which is good news if you live somewhere where it’s difficult to dry clothing and bedding outside during the winter.

It is however, recommended that you be careful if you use them indoors in the nursery as they can become too warm for indoor use, particularly in warmer weather.

This is because using cot blankets and cot sheets gives a parent the ability to keep their baby at the perfect temperature through adding or removing layers when needed.

Usually, you should begin with about three blankets and four sheets. This amount lets you to have enough spare baby bedding if you need to make a speedy change.

It’s a good idea to double check that all the baby bedding you buy is easy to wash and dry – make sure that everything you get is machine-washable.

This is because you will find yourself washing your baby’s bedding many times and having dry clean only bedding would not be very practical.

Parents can even make their own cot sheets by cutting down sheets from a regular adult sized bed if they don’t want to buy those made specifically for a cot. For parents who wish to buy their own baby nursery bedding there are some great choices which are available in shops and also online via the internet.

Don’t forget that you should use specially sized sheets if you use a pram, carrycot or moses basket. These are designed to be smaller than normal cot-sized bedding. Sheets are generally made of the following different materials: traditional cotton, brushed flannelette (which is warm to the touch), cotton jersey or stretch cotton terry.

Stretchy fitted sheets are useful bedding additions because they are unlikely to become come untucked during the night and are easy to get on and off.

Ready made nursery curtains are also a much cheaper alternative to bespoke nursery curtains, so you can choose the nursery curtains to match your budget.

The only thing that you need to consider is getting the size and fit correct. Always make sure that the length of curtains you pick will reach below the window sill. Also make sure that you select nursery curtains which measure double the width of your windows to enable a nice and full gathered effect.
They are an important and necessary addition to the baby nursery bedding shopping list because they add warmth and comfort to a pram while your baby is on the move.

Some mothers like to tuck the pram blanket over and around the baby (so tucked in firmly at the sides) to keep draughts out. Others layer the pram blankets with sheets or even choose to swaddle the baby inside the blanket itself.

Pram blankets can be made from natural fibres such as cotton or wool, or man-made materials such as acrylic wool or fleece.

Moses baskets offer and provide a secure, comfortable and cosy sleeping environment so your baby can sleep well. Baskets can be made from wicker, which is the most expensive, or maize, but the majority are constructed from palm. You will find that wicker baskets have a tendency to last the longest.

For your ease and comfort the baskets have handles so that you can move them with no trouble at all. Typically, Moses baskets will include a fabric-covered hood and a complete set of moses baskets bedding. Usually the baskets come with a foam mattress to help make it more comfortable for a baby.

Moses baskets may be placed directly on the floor, or they may be placed at bed level if parents buy moses basket stands.

Safety tip: Check when buying a Moses basket that its handles are sturdy and meet in the middle.

Pros

Very portable: easy to move from room to room

Your baby may feel more secure in a Moses basket than a cot

Cons

Only used for the first three months or so: an expensive purchase if you buy new

Put the handles together to carry the basket and keep one hand below the basket to support your baby. If you worry about the ability of the basket to hold the weight of your child, remove them from the basket before you move it.

A tip for parents hoping to get their baby into the cot: start putting the Moses Basket inside the cot after the baby has already gone to sleep.

Cot Bedding

It’s a good idea to begin planning for your baby’s cot bedding even before your baby is born. To start with, don’t be misled by the argument that you cant plan for babys cot bedding without knowing if its going to be a girl or a boy.

Its true parents want different patterns, colours and designs for girl and boy babies. It is easy for parents ” especially those hunting for cot bedding for the first time ” to worry about things that aren’t as important as others.

We tend to forget the simple fact that baby can’t say if it feels uncomfortable. We parents must think ahead and make sure the baby bedding is safe from all aspects. For instance, it isn’t true that very soft beds are most comfortable for baby. Also, don’t pile the cot with soft toys. Adults may find them colorful and lovely but not baby. These can turn into hazards because baby could accidentally suffocate. Keep the cot clear of all pillows and soft toys!

Tucking baby under heavy blankets to keep cold draughts away isn’t sensible either. The normal thrashing of babys limbs can bring such blankets over its face and it cant breathe.

Next, plan to keep your babys nursery Self-Sufficient in essentials. After all, except for crying, baby cant really tell you when it needs changing and how often! Blankets and cot sheets may have to be changed several times a day. Our advice is to avoid plastic altogether including for baby comforters. Non-biodegradable material is a strict no-no for babys cot. These may possibly turn out to be allergic for babys delicate skin. Thats why in tropical countries babies always only wear cotton clothes. Our climate doesnt allow this so the next best thing is to use cotton as cot bedding.

Last but by no means the least, you must ensure the Durability of babys cot bedding. Apart from babys cot, plan his nursery well. Pediatrics says it contributes to baby growing up as a happy child. Lets get back once more to babys cot. To recap, lets picture baby lying comfortably on a soft but firm mattress covered with cotton cot sheet and tucked into a light yet warm blanket of pretty design ” not a drab pastel uni-color please! Babies don’t need a pillow and shouldn’t have one until they are over 12 months old.. Similarly, babys cot wont be laden with soft toys of various shapes, sizes, and colors. All done, you can be reassured that darling baby is enjoying a safe slumber.

Why not think about a jungle theme?

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Yes, this is a wonderful theme. Set the room up like a miniature jungle. You can buy decals or paint jungle characters all over the room as well. You may even consider an artificial palm tree too.

Think bamboo furniture, like a nice little chair. There are bamboo type mini blinds as well as throws for the floor. Not to mention, there are cute quilts that have little animal characters with jungle themes as well. I particularly like the Izziwotnot ABC Safari range of bedding and nursery decor. It’s bright and cheerful without being too garish. The range offers nursery canvasses for the walls as well as matching baby sleeping bags too.

We know you are probably thinking “What in the world is the big deal about nursery curtains?” First of all, they are very important to consider. There are things that you would need to know before making your decision about the types of curtains that you would put in your baby’s nursery.

The type of curtains that you consider should be well thought out whenever much of the nursery is finished. There are a few qualities to consider in the type of nursery curtains that you will choose.

First of all, we want the curtains to match the rest of the room. They don’t have to be anything that is too fancy. However, if you have a little girl and the room is already fancy, you want them to match the rest of the room. Color and design do matter when you are trying to chose the best curtains for your nursery.

The other thing that you will want to consider would be the thickness of the curtains. Are they thick enough to where you can’t see anything through them? Are they preventing drafts from coming through during the winter months? These are questions that you want to ask before you make your final purchase. We also are looking for quality because we want to keep the same curtains all throughout the baby’s childhood.

Another thing to consider is the length of the curtain. Whether you like it or not, the baby will get older and will be able to reach the curtain to bring it down. That is of course, if we purchase it a little too long. Remember that we want to keep these curtains for awhile. It is suggested to purchase curtains that are not too long so that the baby can’t pull on them when he is learning to walk.

With the many choices in nursery curtains out there, we feel that we covered the bases as far as the type of curtain to buy. A nursery should feel homey for the baby and at the same time look attractive and be of good quality.

Cot beds are basically cots which convert into a junior bed – that is a toddler sized bed – after your baby has outgrown the cot. A junior bed is smaller than an adult bed. As a general guide, a cot bed will probably last until your child is about 3-4 years old, depending on their size.

We think that a cot bed is a useful way to bridge the gap between a cot and an adult bed. You don’t have to worry about your child’s sleeping arrangements until they are almost school age. A cot bed is usually only a little more expensive than a cot so a cot bed can be a money saving option too as you won’t need to buy a separate junior bed.

One thing to remember though is that you need to buy cot bed bedding and not bedding designed for a cot. A cot bed is larger than a standard sized cot so cot bed bedding, including cot bed duvets and cot bed sheets, take this into account and are made larger to fit properly.

This really is the perfect kids bookcase. Inspired by her own children, Geraldine, the creator of Tidy Books explains:

“It was whilst watching my own kids choose books that I came up with the idea for the Tidybooks bookcase. Like most children, they pulled books out from a conventional shelf to look at the front covers, rather than choose them from the spines. And, of course, all of the books ended up in a messy pile on the floor!”

So Geraldine set about creating the perfect solution for storing children’s books and devised “Tidy Books.”

The ingenious front panels help to keep books secure on the shelf while other books are being picked off the shelf. It also encourages children to enjoy tidying their books after a big reading session, or even get them arranging books in order of size…

The bookcase is not only practical, but looks great too – even smart enough to move out from the nursery into the living room. You can choose from a range of high quality finishes, from natural wood to painted white, pale rose or pure azure.

RRP £109.99

The acrylic sides are removable though so you can take them off and create a stylish nursery bench, which is perfect for reading bedtime stories. Underneath the crib there’s a large storage drawer – which is an ideal space saving solution and place to store extra bedding – perfect if baby is in the “box-room.”
